Hello Android Authority readers!
It’s my pleasure to announce that while we’re finishing up testing for our annual Best of Android series, we’re going to be launching a Reader’s Choice award. We need YOU to decide which 2018 phones are the best, crowning one handset to reign supreme. An internal poll decided the seeding order, and all matchups were determined using a 24-unit bracket. This means that the most popular phones here got a first-round bye, but any phone has a chance to unseat these mobile devices head-to-head. Be sure to scroll to the bottom of the page to cast your votes, and to enter our giveaway — the more you vote on our matchups, the more chances you get to win one of three winning phones!
Every day, we’re going to be updating our Best of Android scoreboard with the winners from the previous day’s polling. Check back here every day for a new head-to-head matchup, and to see how badly your phone beat the competition!
Once a final winner is determined, it’ll earn the coveted Android Authority Reader’s Choice Award. While we can’t guarantee that this is going to be the best smartphone of all time, the bracket competition is a fun way to blow off some steam and do what we came to Android Authority to do in the first place: argue about phones.
Vote on our social channels, too!
Well, this was a far more exciting matchup! With a margin of error just slightly outside Florida’s 2000 electoral mess, the Vivo Nex defeats the Nokia 8 Sirocco in total votes. This poll was far closer than yesterday’s — and far more exciting. It took a long time for the Nex to get any separation, and it didn’t carry every poll. Nokia actually took the Twitter poll, but lost everything else ever so slightly (21,213 votes overall). Please peruse our voting data, as we pay tribute to the fallen.
This is a lot of fun, and I’m proud of our readers. I know that it’s very easy to care a whole lot about smartphones — myself included — and the tone in the comments has been encouraging! But I’ve been seeing some nastiness in some social channels. Chill out man, quit gettin’ mad at user polls.
Well, this may be a rather one-sided matchup, but who doesn’t want to watch the New England Patriots hang 59 on the Titans in the snow? Razer followed up their powerhouse of a phone with a sequel this year, and it’s sure to capture the lust and attention of mobile gamers. Motorola, on the other hand, went with a safer build for their Z3. But which phone is better? We can see where this one might be headed, but not everyone needs a hyper-powered gaming phone — maybe you want to spend a little and get a Polaroid photo printer, Hasselblad camera, or JBL speaker modification for your phone? If you haven’t checked out the Moto mods yet, many of those are enough to give even the most hardcore phone nerds some pause.
For a high-end flagship with an emphasis on mobile gaming, this phone is extremely competitive. This is one of the year’s few high-end smartphones that doesn’t hit the thousand dollar mark, and that alone might be enough to attract a few eyeballs.
Overall, the Razer Phone 2 is a solid product. It performs well, it’s amazing for gaming, and additions like water resistance and wireless charging make this a better smartphone over the original Razer Phone. The RGB logo is fun, even if it doesn’t do much aside from just look cool.
I’ve always wanted a transformer for a phone, and the Moto Mods are cool as hell. Sure, they cost a bit of money, but sometimes you need to do something drastic to stand out in a crowd. I’m bored of featureless slates: give me something new!
