Despite the efforts by some online who tried to bring down Marvel’s first standalone female superhero movie by flooding sites like Rotten Tomatoes and IMDb with negative reviews and comments so the movie’s audience score would be low, “Captain Marvel” powered through to earn an estimated $153 million its opening weekend.
That makes it the third-biggest opening for the month of March, behind “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” ($166 million), “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” ($146.5 million), and “Iron Man 3” ($174.1 million).
The performance is also a welcomed sight for the domestic box office, which is coming off of a 17-year low in ticket sales for February.

This led to huge coin for the movie.
The movie, directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck (“Half Nelson”), also bested the first female superhero movie to get a theatrical release in the last 10 years, 2017’s “Wonder Woman.” Directed by Patty Jenkins — who is hard at work on the sequel, “Wonder Woman 1984” — the movie had an opening weekend of $103.2 million.
