Since YouTube Music, Google Assistant, and Google Home hardware are all owned by the same company, you’d think making them all play nice together would be a no-brainer. However, Google has the peculiar habit of taking quite a while before integration within all its systems works smoothly.
It also has a peculiar habit of not telling anyone when it finally does institute that integration.
Case in point: YouTube Music and Google Home hardware. Previously, users of the Google Play Music replacement service could integrate with Google Home — assuming they lived in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, or Mexico. Any other country and integration wouldn’t be possible.
Now though, Google has officially updated that list to be much more comprehensive. As of today, here are the countries where the integration of YouTube Music and Google Home hardware is possible:
India and Singapore have access to Google Home hardware but don’t yet have access to YouTube Music. Therefore, it makes sense they are not on the list (however, it doesn’t make much sense that India has access to Google Play Music subscriptions but not YouTube Music).
It should be noted that users in some of these locales could have seen YouTube Music integration well before today. However, Google only today got around to updating its support pages on the matter.
To add YouTube Music as the default music service on your Google Home smart speaker, use your smartphone to open the Google Home app. Click the Account tab, then click Settings. Tap the Services tab and then select Music. Select YouTube Music on this page and, going forward, when you say, “OK Google, play music” to your smart speaker, it will pull songs from YouTube Music.
