What the Wirecutter Staff Bought on Prime Day

Not all of our favorite things come from extensive hours of research and testing (and retesting when stuff goes haywire). Sometimes we find something that just clicks. Prime Day brought with it good deals aplenty, and we found lots of things—some of them items we’d had our eye on, others that were just plain impulse buys—to add to the cart. Here are a few of the things Wirecutter writers and editors bought on the first day of Prime Day.

Big shoes to fill

Under Armour Kids’ Pre School Assert 8 Alternate Closure Sneaker

Street price: $50; deal price: $30

My son officially starts kindergarten next month, and these are going to be his kindergarten shoes, which is both practical and emotionally devastating.

Music to your ears

Jabra Elite 65t Alexa Enabled True Wireless Earbuds

Street price: $170; deal price: $114

Wirecutter’s headphones genius Lauren Dragan called these the best wireless earbuds in her review, and although I was holding out for the sweatproof Active version to go on sale, she told me that for my casual runs, the regular 65t pair would hold up. Sold.

Capturing those purrrfect moments

Photo: Kasa

TP-Link KC100 Kasa Spot

Street price: $50; deal price: $35

This is one of our upcoming pet camera picks. We got our first chickens this spring, and my husband bought one so we could watch them in their coop.

Start the show

Amazon Echo Show 5

Street price: $90; deal price: $50

I mainly bought this to help me be a better Wirecutter reviewer. This thing will be great, especially when I’m reviewing home security cameras. Selfishly, I also want to watch videos and get recipe help in the kitchen!

Time to shine

Youniverse Make Your Own Sparkling Squishy Soaps

Street price: $15; deal price: $9

This was an impulse buy for my 7-year-old, who loves science, sparkles, unicorns, and donuts. I read too late that it includes body glitter, so I might be full of regret when we actually open this $9 kit.

Stay cool for the summer

Photo: Sun Squad

Sun Squad Unicorn Sprinkler

Street price: $50; deal price: $35

I’ve seen this in real life, and it is just as giant as it looks in photos. It’s been a wet summer in Washington, so this might not seem like an obvious purchase, but it will make my kiddo very, very happy. If we can’t use it as a sprinkler, maybe it’ll make the neighborhood deer think twice before eating my strawberry plants.
